It seems that popular American car maker Ford may not just be concentrating into making the cars of the future after all. At the recent exhibit at the Frankfurt Motor Show where Ford has recently introduced a new line up of vehicles and technology, the company also has introduced an interesting concept for the E-Bike. It seems that Ford may have wanted to translate their technological and design know-how into a convenient E-Bike Concept.
The new Ford E-Bike Concept features cutting edge technology used in the world of Formula One and top of the line bicycle components. The Ford E-Bike Concept features a drive system that consist of a motor located at the front wheel hub, a lithium ion battery hidden in the bike's frame. This Ford E-Bike Concept is promising up to a range of 85km per full charge. This is made possible by having a frame profile made out of strong aluminum and carbon with a weight of only 2.5 kg.
The Ford E-Bike Concept also makes use of magneotostrictive materials that convert magnetic energy into kinetic energy and vice versa. Sensors are placed on the bicycle's inner bearings and monitor the revolutions which is them relayed to the control unit. The control unit then turns the electric motor on or off, integrating power provided by the biker's legs with that of the motor. It is the first of such technology used for an E-Bike. Unfortunately, Ford says that it is not planning to mass produce the E-Bike Concept any time soon. The company is just trying to explore and study such concepts to offer future mobility solutions. But who knows, maybe ford may change its mind in the future if interest on their E-Bike Concept gathers momentum.
