After the retail launch of its Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon may have something else to offer. A research report by Citi analysts Mark Mahaney and Kevin Chang states that Amazon may be launching its own smartphone next year.

The report comes into the conclusion after looking at supply-chain checks with hardware manufacturers in China. Citi believes that Amazon is developing a smartphone along with Foxconn (the company that manufactures Apple's iPhones), but the hardware itself will be assembled by TMS (which produces the Kindle products).

According to the report, the smartphone will likely have a OMAP 4 processor by Texas Instruments and a Qualcomm "dual-mode 6-series standalone baseband." The hardware is estimated to cost between $150 and $170 on retail.
