Printrbot: Cheap 3D Printer for All
ad space
Want a 3D printer of your own but get intimidated by how expensive it is? Brook Drumm of Vault Multimedia wants to provide everyone an opportunity to have their very own 3D printing machine so they can churn out 3D-printed holiday presents.
The Printrbot is a RepRap-based 3D printer that can be easily installed and costs a fraction of the competition. It does away with complicated calibration and adjustments, even the arduous soldering. All you need to do is assemble it and you are good to go.
The project has recently completed its funding through Kickstarter. Its retail cost depends on the level of kit completion. Purchase the $199 kit and you get most of the parts except for the extruder, while for $500 you get the whole package. The Printrbot is completely expandable and can print items as large as 5 cubic inches, although it can be upgraded to 12 cubic inches.
