Improve Your Basketball Shooting Drills
You don’t win in a basketball match if you could not shoot at all. Start perfecting your shooting skills by following these easy drills.
7-Up – Play a game against yourself by taking a shot that you have to make seven consecutive times before moving on. If at any time you miss, you have to start over until you have hit seven consecutive shots. After hitting those seven shots, move on to a slightly difficult shot that you have to shoot six consecutive times. Continue shooting until you are shooting a shot that you have to make just one time. You could start by shooting 7 lay-ups, then 6 free throws, then 3 mid-range, 2 long-range shots, working your way up to a lone half-court shot.
Shooting pocket – This drill perfects your shooting arm position. Let your shooting arm hang down at your side and swing it back and forth several times. Swing the arm up towards your shoulder and hold it when it stops. This position is your optimum shooting position and should be your position when doing a jump shot.
Shooting progression – Since form is so important in shooting, work on making that form a habit should be a priority in perfecting your shooting. An easy way to do this is to lie on your back and shoot the ball straight up into the air. The ball should go straight up and come straight down with proper back spin. This can be done before going to sleep at night or while watching TV during commercials.
