Common Reasons
Teen violence can affect anyone. Young people who do them may have various reasons for doing so and many of these may not be as simple to point out. One of the reasons why teens resort to violence is that they see it as a means to express their feelings of anger and frustration. Some resort to violence as a means to manipulate or to control others. Others may use violence as a means to retaliate against people who may have hurt them or any of their loved ones.
Contributing Factors
Aside from the main reasons why young people try to resort to violence, there are also some contributing factors that would help them develop this type of behavior. First and foremost, violent behavior can be easily enforced through peer pressure.
The fact that young people yearn to become part of a group or a collective can have them easily be influenced by their peers. If one belongs to a group that thrives on violence, a young adult would easily develop such behavior along the way.
Another contributing factor to violent behavior is through a teenagers need for attention and respect. Neglect and even early abuse suffered by teens in their family help develop violent behavior. Feelings of low self-worth and early experience with violence may also contribute to teens developing violent behavior later on.
Recognizing Warning Signs
Violent behavior in teenagers can be recognized early by taking some time to look at the warning signs. Knowing the signs can help parents as well as school counselors to take the necessary measures to help prevent such behaviors from escalating into serious issues that may negatively affect teenagers.
One of the immediate warning signs of a violent behavior is a short temper. Teens exhibiting more frequent temper flares almost on a daily basis can be a sign of a developing violent behavior. Frequent physical fighting with siblings, friends or classmates may also be a warning sign of a developing violent behavior.
Teens developing an enjoyment of hurting animals may also develop into an enjoyment of hurting other people later on. Carrying any form of weapon is also a telltale sign of a developing violent behavior. Other warning signs include alcohol and substance abuse, thoughts of committing violent acts as well as increased risk taking behavior.
