The Advent of the Mobile Web
The mobile phone and the World Wide Web is quite an irresistible combination. Being able to surf the web on a tiny mobile phone that one brings anywhere is something that people have been wanting to see developed even more. And with the arrival of the iPhone, with its feature that allows users to easily view web pages as if straight from the desktop, things may just be going very well with the mobile Web.
The mobile Web has become one of the front runners of technologies that would become big in the coming future. When people were then contented with just experiencing the version of the World Wide Web with past mobile phones and PDA's, upcoming technologies and gadgets like the current iPhone would be about to change all that.
Mobile Web used to be just the WAP, or Wireless Application Protocol. The WAP was able to provide mobile phone and PDA users with the opportunity to access the World wide Web from such gadgets but with a simplified version to accommodate certain limitations of mobile phones. Web pages on WAP are written differently and in a simplified manner than the desktop versions, not actually providing a similar experience to that of the desktop.
But the changes and developments being made for the mobile Web will be trying to approach Web surfing from the perspective of the mobile user. It has increasingly become easier for users with the most advanced gadgets today, the iPhone users especially, to have a closer-to-the-usual Web experience using their mobile phones.
But page design may also need to be rethought in order to fit into the mobile gadget's own strengths. From page navigation to content, the mobile Web might need to go through a lot of rethinking in order to give users a more optimized and satisfying experience surfing the Web through a tiny but powerful gadget that has become a necessity for people all over the world.
