How to Promote Your Website

Promoting your website does not only cover the online medium. There are still a sizable number of people who do not know how to use the Internet effectively. That is why it is best to reach out to them in other means, here are the examples.

Company documentation – Display your website URL prominently in different company documents such as letter head paper, business cards, invoices, envelopes, etc.

Company vehicles – We usually see vehicles with phone numbers and company names painted on them. Try creating stickers with your URL and paste it on any part of your vehicle, exposing your site's address to a lot of people who are driving or walking along sidewalks. Just make sure that these vehicle ads are well-designed so that it reflects well in your company.

Newspapers and magazines – Printed media like newspapers and magazines are still an effective source of advertisement. Many people still use them and get exposed to its numerous ads. Running full page color ads in national papers or mags can be expensive, so try save up the budget by running a small advertisement in local newspapers and working your way to the nationals once your traffic and business grow. Also, check out advertising rates of trade magazines that cater to your target market. All readers of a trade mag are your potential customers.

Radio – You may think that the radio is obsolete, but it is still considered a “penetrating medium.” National and satellite radio stations reach out to millions of people around the country. And since national rates can be quite expensive, we could again start with checking out local radio station. Remember that the price you pay depends upon the time of day and how often your advertisement is aired.

Television – If you are starting up on your online business, advertising on national TV is out of the question. It is massively expensive to compensate its massive appeal and massive audience. What you can do, however, is to tap advertising on local cable TV channels. The benefit of advertising on television is that it can give the impression to the audience that your company is bigger and successful than it actually is, thereby increasing interest and—hopefully—site traffic.

Corporate items – Branding your website address over a variety of items like pens, pencils, mouse pads, coffee mugs, t-shirts, etc. can be effective advertising tool. You give them away for free, but the returns can be well worth it. Remember to distribute specific items on your specific market. For instance, give away pens on local businesses that are your prospective market, while you can distribute mouse pads at your local college.

Word of mouth – This method is still effective, but it can either work for you or against you.  The only way to get positive word of mouth advertising is to honestly provide excellent product or service. Do not lie or cheat your way through. If a person likes what you do in your site, he or she will most likely refer your business to six others. Meanwhile, if a person is disappointed with your site, he or she will tell to twenty more.
