How to Manage Your Time as a Student
For some reason, you, a member of the labor force decide to go back to school for a degree (or another degree), balancing job, plus school, plus personal life is not easy. You may need some helpful tips on how to survive your hectic schedule.
Choosing your program
A lot of schools today are creating programs that are very accommodating to working students. These schools usually offer night, classes, and weekend classes. Some even offer distance learning opportunities. Working students can take their courses via the internet or through teleconferences.
Set a goal
Set a a goal or a time frame for completing your program. Whether it's a long-term or short-term goal, always remember that doing this will help further your career and open doors for you.
Keep the boss informed...ahead of time
Companies and employers often encourage their employees to attain degrees. Those companies are willing to accommodate students' schedules. If that is the case between you and your employers, inform your boss of regarding your schedule as early as possible.
Being organized is key
Keep track of everything by making To-do lists (daily, weekly). Keep your cool if unexpected problems arise. Keep work and school separate.
Take care of yourself
Eat right, exercise. Get enough sleep. And no, it is not called slacking off or indulging in time-wasting activities. Just imagine what will happen if you got sick.
Family time and alone time is also not slacking off
Do not feel guilty spend time with your loved ones or spending some time for yourself. Remember, you are aiming for balance.
Take a breather
If you feel overwhelmed by your course load, or work load, you can always take a semester off.
Study on the go
Browse through notes while waiting in line or listen to tape-recorded lectures when driving.
Make good use of the internet
You can communicate with professors via email or research your projects online.
