Negotiating Your Salary
Getting what we want won't fall on our lap nor would the heavens bring a silver platter to our table in just one prayer. Knowing how to ask and knowing what you want is the key ingredient to receive a raise. Employees often ignore the power of good negotiation so as to get a better salary package. For a sweeter deal, all you have to do is to be persuasive but at the right level without damaging the employee-employer relationship.
Before hand, you must know your goals and your grounds which in turn must be presented to your boss with utmost objectivity. This means that you have to show your boss that you are an asset to the company and giving you a better salary would only compensate for your hardwork.
Moreover, it is necessary that your terms are realistic enough, which your boss can't turn down, otherwise, asking would be in vain. The right attitude to getting the salary you desrve is learning to listen not only to yourself but also to your boss' views on the matter. As much as possible, avoid ultimatums, threats, and coercive behavior or else say goodbye to your table and best find another job.
Remember, the power to negotiate lies on your ability to be flexible and yet never over compromising your side.
