Job Search Techniques & Methods
Many job seekers usually file their applications to prospective employers and just leave it at that, waiting for the callback. However, some applicants try their best to standout by doing even the simplest things such as following-up on their applications.
Many people may think that doing so would be a sign of aggression, but if you do it right, it might just give you the extra boost that you need. Here are our suggestions on the right way of conducting a follow-up during job search.
Follow-up after application is sent - Wait for a few days before you call the employer. Introduce yourself and inform the potential employer politely that you have submitted your job application to their office. You can also do follow-up after your initial inquiry about job vacancies.
Methods for following-up - This can be done in a variety of ways such as through phone, e-mail, or regular mail. Although contacting the employer through phone is the most effective, other methods can come in handy if the employer is not "easy-to-reach" or does not accept phone calls.
Highlight your strengths - Following-up on your job application can provide a positive impression towards the potential employer. It can also highlight your strengths and can make you elaborate on things that you did not mention in your first contact.
Show your enthusiasm - When conducting a follow-up, express your continued interest for the position and that you are looking forward to accepting the opportunity.
Once is enough - It is best to follow-up just once. Being persistent can sometimes be misinterpreted as being annoying.
