How to Use Google to Find a Job
In today's world, privacy is a thing of the past. Every bit of information about you is most likely shot up into the Internet, most likely because of your own doing. Try typing your full name on Google and you see search results linking to your social network profile, blogs, career portfolio, school announcements, and forum messages among others.
It may appear like a bad news at first, but you can use all these exposed information to your advantage when it comes to marketing and promoting yourself in job searches, or even in business, and eventually building your credibility through the power of the Internet.
Build a professional social networking profile
You can start on your own social networking profile. How would a completely stranger perceive you just by looking at your online profile? Would your photos of partying and drinking alcohol make you a more competent worker? Would your choice of words reflect the positive values you want to show?
Maybe you need to redo your profile a bit by putting up decent photos of yourself as well as editing your choice of words, making it free from vulgar or offensive remarks.
Write rich content
If you have a blog under you name, you can write about different information-rich articles about your profession or business which you can also publish in other blog directory sites, online groups, e-zines, or let Google "record" them (they call it "caching").
Just make sure you are putting articles where it is allowed. For instance, Wikipedia does not allow linking to personal websites.
Build your online identity
Eventually, you will slowly seem to notice how more people inquire about you or your business. One reason is that potential employers not only browse your resume and online profile but also how you present yourself to the Internet by typing in your name on Google.
Another reason is because people would search for a particular product or service and managed to stumble upon your articles. This shows that your online credibility has increased.
So do not be afraid about the loss of privacy because of the Internet. Use it to your advantage and promote yourself among thousands of potential employers or buyers.
