Going Back To Work
There are times that people are job-ridden for quite a while. Their reason is just as much as legitimate as the next. Some moms want to spend more time with their children and see them grow. Some dads just need to concentrate on their health for a while. Other people might even decide to take up further studies and see if they can add to their current body of knowledge. Whatever the reason may be, in their eyes, they have been out of the loop for quite a while and the fact is, it can be a bit daunting for some people. For others, anxiety sets in simply because they really are not sure of their skills anymore. For others, it might be age that is bothering you. These are legitimate worries and you wonder if someone will ever take you in given the duration of your hiatus. Whatever stage you are in right now, here are some suggestions that you can take into heart when considering you going back to your old working self.
Analyze yourself
First of all, think about what you have to offer to any company that you might want to enter. If you have gained extra insight or maybe skills during your hiatus, see if mentioning these things will help you have a good impact on your employer in the long run. If you have been into volunteer work during your break, then by all means, take a look at it from different angles. You might see something that could be of great and essential importance to a company that needs especially that in an employee. Also, analyze if what you want is a part-time or full-time job. Don’t go on applying for every job that you think you might fit in. You should take a long, hard look at yourself and ask if what you want is being offered by the company you are interested in. It’s all about knowing what will make you passionate about working again and what skills you are able to bring to the table.
Look out for job leads
A significant study from the Society of Human Resources managers says that 86% of employers find it effective to use online recruitment ads for open jobs while the Department of Labor says that 63% of jobs filled are done through networking. Knowing this, you should get your feet wet talk to the people you already know. There might be people who are also looking for professionals with your skill set. You should also browse a good number of job search websites. Ask around and look around is the rule of thumb. You should ask for referrals from your friends and ask them to ask other people so that your network will grow. Sooner or later you’ll get a good result and maybe if you’re lucky, a job that you like.
Be ready to work right now
One thing that you have to remember as a person who is going back into the job hunting loop is when you’ve decided to get back in, you should always be ready to start working. If you come in late because of the kids or maybe some other reason, your employer will not appreciate that and maybe opt for a replacement because of your irregular and undependable attitude. When you’re looking for work, be ready to work.
