Preparing Your Home for Visitors

The sunny, breezy feel of summertime makes visits from your friends and family occur more often. But before you open you arms welcoming them, check out if your home is ready for visitors. Here are things that you should consider.

Your appliances, electricity, and plumbing should be working – When you entertain your visitors, you would most likely need to use all of them. If you have a faulty appliance, or dripping faucets, flickering light switch, or even a poorly flushing toilet, have them repaired or you can do it yourself beforehand. Besides, if you don’t fix them as soon as possible, they could cause some major damage in your home.

Make your home conducive for your guests – Explore some of your home’s amenities that could make a great guest room. Make sure to have an empty dresser and luggage rack on hand, if your guests are going to stay longer. See to it that there is plenty of empty space on tables and nightstands for small items such as books, jewelry.

Check your doors and windows – Make sure your doors and windows should close and latch properly to ensure both security and privacy.

Make your home safe for children – If your visitor will have small children in tow when they visit, see to it that your house is safe for them. Many accidents happen during the excitement of visits, especially that visiting kids are on unfamiliar turf.

Organize you guest closet – Most guest closets double up for general storage and then to be stuffed with clutter. Provide your guests plenty of hanging space for their clothing by outfitting the closet with storage organizers.

The fireplace should be working – When you gather around the fire with friends and family, the last thing you want is to be driven away by smoke or, worse, a chimney fire. Clean your chimneys periodically. You can hire a professional chimney sweeper or do it yourself.
