Installing Christmas lights or other electronic displays

Be mindful of the instructions on electrical displays, particularly when setting them up. As much as possible, do not overload double adapters or power boards.

Avoid linking one set of lights with another as well as leaving extension cords along the windows or doorways. Make sure they are off the ground and well away from any trip hazards.

Do not make any modifications along any part of the electrical display. Also, make no attempts of replacing the fuse wires or circuit breakers with something bigger.

If you are hanging displays along the eaves or such, take extra care. Make sure that you are not using rickety ladders while working at such heights.

Operating safely

If you are going to buy and use electronic displays, go for the one that has a standards seal and approval label.

Keep the decorative lights away from flammable materials and children since they have the tendency to get hot. Always remember to switch them off before going to bed. Make sure they are working properly. Otherwise, do not use them.

Switch off the power and unplug the cords if you are going to replace the bulbs and use the similar type of bulb. Also, make sure the lights are unplugged when watering or trimming your Christmas tree.

For outdoor decorative lights

Make sure that the decorative lights are best fit for use in outdoors. Be sure that they are also weatherproof.

If you are using a transformer for low voltage supply, ensure that it is well ventilated. Additionally, for 240-volt lights, make certain that they are approved by a licensed electrician for long-term use. Avoid using these on decorated Christmas trees.

Make the necessary measures to avoid electrical equipments like transformers or connections from getting wet.

If possible, do not trim trees that have electrical wiring around them. Also, be aware of he power lines near them.
