Burglar Proofing Your Home
Homeowners usually want their home to be safe and secure as possible. Threats such as burglaries loom large in many neighborhoods. Burglar proofing your home should be an important thing to consider in order to protect both your family and property. Here are ways that this can be done.
Check the Outside
One way to determine if your home needs some burglar proofing is by looking at it from the outside. Burglars usually try to size up a home depending on how they look from the outside.
They try to assess and see if it can be easy to get into as well as try to check if it may be a home with many valuable properties to steal from.
In the same way, you should try to look for tell-tale signs from the outside of your home that burglars might try to exploit to get into your home.
Check Landscaping
Your home's landscaping can tell a lot about your home. It would be a good idea if you try to find possible entry points for the burglar.
If you have trees inside or outside your yard, try to make sure that the branches are not low enough for robbers to climb from. Try to prune them especially those that may lead to other entry points to your home.
Other possible points to look at are possible hiding areas such as bushes near your home.
You can try to trim them regularly to prevent them from becoming a cover for sneaking burglars. If you wish to have decorative bushes around, try to have the thorny variety to deter burglars from using them in any way to get into your home.
Try also to install bright lighting around your home. Dark areas are usually where most burglars try to hide before they enter your home.
Install Layered Home Security Systems
Another effective way to burglar proof your home is to install a home security system. But make sure that you try to make it a layered system.
This means that you can try to install two or three separate types of home security alarms in your home. It can be easy for burglars to break into your home's first line of defense. But with a couple or even three separate home security systems, it would be quite a difficult home to break into.
Additional Tips
Refrain from hiding your keys somewhere in the yard or the door. This is a common practice among homeowners which burglars try to exploit to gain entry. It would be better if you bring the key with you along always or have duplicates for the other family members.
When going away, don't try to leave notes behind to give burglars a hint that no one's inside. This goes the same for leaving a garage door open. An empty garage can tell a burglar that no one is at home.
