It must always be noted that each type has its unique characteristic in terms of growth habits, size, type of bloom and levels of maintenance: while some require more care than other, others can be left and grow alone in the pot.

The name "rose" comes from the Persian term "vrda," or "rhodon" in Greek. Botanists claim that there are about 100 to 150 species of roses. Basically, roses can be subdivided into three main groups: the species, the old garden rose and the modern rose.

The Species is a group of roses that flourish in temperate climates and is abundant in places in the Northern Hemisphere. They are widely known as the wild roses, and can easily be identified through their five petals. They bloom once a season and often thorny. The most popular species are Cherokee Roses, Dog Roses, Red Leaf Roses and French Roses.

These bloom once a season and usually grows in several shrub and vine sizes. It is often colored white or pastel, but colors may vary. The most popular types under this group are Tea, Moss, Damask, Hybrid and Perpetual roses, and they are preferred for lawns and home gardening.

Any rose identified after 1867 are what we call the Modern Rose,, the most well-known group for the ordinary people. Most roses in this class flower repeatedly with proper care. Roses in this group are Hybrid tea, Floribunda and Grandi-Flora. These roses require extra care and prefer a warmer environment.

In fact, Hybrid tea is the type considered the most familiar and most popular grown at florist shops - the rose plant has even been generalized according to this flower's form. A hybrid tea has a large bloom at the end of a long cane and can grow from 3-6 feet. Blooms can come in different colors, even blue and black.
