Christmas Tree Selection and Care

Selection of the perfect Christmas tree for your needs

Decide on where you will place the tree, and determine if it will be seen from all sides or if some portions will be hidden.

Measure the height and width of the space you have available in the room where the tree will be placed, and don’t forget to take a tape measure with you to measure Christmas trees.

Buy trees early before the best trees have been sold and where trees are placed in a shaded area. A fresh tree has a healthy green appearance with few browning needles.

Make sure the base of the tree is straight and sufficiently long to fit into the stand.

Some species last longer and remain fresh much longer than others. Ask your retailer which tree performs best in your region.

Real Christmas tree care

Make a fresh cut to remove a 1/4" to 1" thick disk of wood from the base of the trunk. Make the cut perpendicular to the stem axis. Don't cut the trunk at an angle, or into a v-shape, which reduces the amount of water available to the tree.

Drilling a hole in the base of the trunk does not improve water uptake.

Once home, place the tree in water as soon as possible, and do not add additives in the water

Keep your Christmas tree away from sources of heat. You can lower the room temperature to slow the drying process.

Make sure the level of water does not go below the base of the tree.

Use miniature lights to reduce drying of the tree
