Birthday Songs

Birthday cakeWhen you've flipped on the light switch and the guest of honor is standing there with his mouth open (or smirking if he's figured it out already), it's time to belt out that old standard. Or why not try something else?

Happy Birthday To You – This classic was originally written as “Good Morning To All” in 1893 by Patty and Mildred Hill. Then the lyrics we know the song most by were given in 1935 by Clayton F. Summy. This is the most frequently sung song in the world, according to the Guiness Book of World Records.

Birthday Song – A song from Don McLean, the artist best known for “American Pie” (the song, not the movie) and “Vincent”. With moving lyrics and a laid-back acoustic touch, this is best sung for that someone special when you're both alone, not when everybody is there ready to party (and laugh at you).

Bonne Fête à Toi – The Happy Birthday song in French. Hey, it might give your party that classy continental touch it's sorely missing.

Birthday – By. The. Beatles. 'Nuff said. “You say it's your birthday...!” For me, no birthday song starts off the celebration better than this Lennon/McCartney scorcher. Definitely do it if you have a band in the house. It just rocks. “Yes we're going to a party party” indeed!
