With a child on the way, a man has to learn and prepare for the demanding role of being a father. It can either be a pretty scary or exciting moment for the fathers-to-be, expecting a child in a few days or months. But before that happens, he should be able to get to know about the role of a father and see if he can stand up to it in a responsible way.

The Provider

Since a new family is about to take shape, the male should take the main responsibility of being able to support it.

One of the important roles of a father is that of a provider. He should be the one to provide for the financial needs of his family. It should be the father who should provide a roof for the whole family, putting food on the table, and ensure that life is comfortable enough for everyone.

The Foundation

Just like any home stands on a firm foundation in order to be stable, so would the father's role be. The father should act as the leader of the home. He should be the one to make the decisions of what is best for the whole family. Every family decision and concern goes through the father.

Although it can be deliberated and discussed with his wife and sometimes with the children, it is the father who has the final say. In doing so, it is the role of the father to take a tough stance at times.

The Disciplinarian

And just for the foundation to become stable, the father should also act the role of a disciplinarian to his children. Although the job can be shared with the wife, it is one of the main roles of the father to ensure that his children learns about the good and bad as well as the consequences that come with it.

This role would require some amount of strictness to ensure that discipline is upheld especially when kids do something wrong. This will help mold the children to refrain from doing bad things and judging between doing right or doing the wrong thing.

The Guide

The father's role also includes being a guide to his children. Aside from the other roles that he plays in the family, setting the example for his children to follow is one of the most important in trying to mold the children into becoming better adults later on.

Most kids look into their parents for something that they can emulate. If the father does not properly take up this role, the children would likely follow the good as well as the bad characteristics that they grow up with. It eventually becomes a part of their own personality.
