Halloween Spider Costumes

Spider costumes are a hit during Halloween. It's a given that most people are afraid of these eight-legged creatures. So why not come at a costume party dressed as a creepy-crawly spider?

Spider costumes can be simple and easy to make. For a basic spider costume, wear black jogging pants or tights as a spider suit. Pin or sew to the sides of the suit about 6 to 8 1/2" thick black ropes cut to size to make the spider legs. Stuff four pairs of polyester gloves with tissue or cotton and attach these to the ends of each spider leg.

Make the spider arms move by tying fishing wire or black string on the hands of each leg. Attach these to the wrist in such a way that when the hand is moved, all the other spider arms move the same way. Add antennas to a headband or any headgear. One has the option to add reflective or glowing material around each arm or on the black suit. For a more creepy-crawly spider feel, add synthetic fur or fuzzy material to the costume.

There are also a variety of ready-made spider costumes available in the market. The more popular choice is the officially licensed Spider-man costumes, from the popular comic book superhero and movie franchise.

The one-piece blue and red nylon bodysuit comes complete with an over-the-head hood, that doubles as a mask, and the trademark web accents and spider logo on the chest. Some Spider-man costumes are even buffed up with muscles in the legs and torso area. The only things that are not included in the Spider-man garb are Spidey's web slings and the villains to match.

Infants would look adorable in a baby spider costume. For their first Halloween, why not dress them up as an itsy-bitsy spider. Suit the babies up in a plush spider vest with small spider legs hanging on the sides. Match this with a cute spider costume hat and the baby surely will be treated to loads of Halloween goodies.

Ladies also have the option to go for spider costumes. Spider web capes are specifically designed for a sexy, Halloween look, with silver, see-through nets adorned by web-like patterns. These full length hooded capes, when matched with a hot red dress, are sure to give men a spook that they would want to get caught in a sticky, web-like situation.
