Getting Ready for Kindergarten
So your child is growing up faster than you realize and you're thinking of putting him into kindergarten. This may be one of the biggest things that your child will go through during his early years since this will prepare him for a lifetime of learning what he can.
In order to prepare him for this stage, you will need to have him know some things in advance. You should be able to teach your child as he is growing up some essentials.
Some of the things that kindergarten will probably assume you've already taught your child are the different names of the colors or identifying some letters. You may also need to teach him how to count to ten and how to write their first name. You may also want to teach him how to play cooperatively with others or how to follow two to three part commands. You may also want to have him start to learn how to pay attention or how to concentrate.
Your child should be able to listen and understand different stories which are simple in nature. Another thing is that your child should also learn how to spend extended periods of time away from you as a practice. This will be for the time that your child will be away in school while you work. Your child should also be able to verbally communicate his needs and different wants to you or to any person.
Because not all children are ready for school at the same time, it could be quite a while before your child is ready to be in kindergarten. However you should be able to help him prepare for kindergarten so that when you leave him with other children, you will be able to allow him to be himself and he will be able to get to know other children and playmates as well. It would be a good exercise for you to get him acquainted with the teacher beforehand so that the faces that he will be looking at will be quite familiar by the time that real school starts.
The one important thing to note is that your child should be ready for kindergarten. Should you feel that your child is not yet ready you can discuss the issue with a teacher in school to verify if your child will adjust easily given his current state. Accommodations could be made for your child so you need not worry at all. In time, you need to let go and have him face the world of kindergarten.
