Children: Responding to Misbehavior
Boredom is one of the things that makes your child engage in negative behavior. The best way to do this is by distracting them. This catches their attention and may lead them to do something even more productive.
There are ways on how to get their attention. All you have to do is deliver or convey an appropriate message to them. Of course, you know that yelling seldom delivers the right message.
Whispering
Do this if the child is unaffected by your shouts. This intrigues them as it is inaudible as well as it saves your voice.
Surprising
Try catching them by surprising them with such things like a clap. Actually, it can be anything that will make them focus their attention to you.
Clowning around
Another way to get your child's attention is by acting ridiculous. It will make him or her notice you and get him or her to laugh.
Touching
Physical contacts like a hug or a pat on the back can help provide the connection you need when you like to say something. Such closeness makes you impossible to be heard.
Gesturing
Accompanying your words with non-verbal actions will catch the attention of your child. Waving frantically or tapping your ear with your fingers are such ways to get their attention.
Bribing
If your child listens to you, give them something afterwards. Even small things will do. Then tell your child that you love him or her.
Distracting
Talk about something else. This will help you in segueing the topic and let you on in delivering your message.
Intruding
If your child's attention is fixated on something else like the TV, step in front of it. Put yourself between the object and your child. Then you can address him or her with the message you want to say.
Ordering
Instead of raising your voice, try to use a tone which is devoid of any unfriendly tone but sharp enough to get his or her attention.
Asking
Ask them to focus on your voice. Do this in a mild manner. Sometimes, making yourself direct to the point makes you get heard loud and clear.
