Better parenting involves having a better connection and communication with the kids. It is the best way for parents to be able to determine how to bring up their children in the most effective way possible. Here are some tips that would help parents establish better communication with their kids.
Be Available
Sometimes all it takes to establish better communication with the children is by simply being there. It is especially very important for parents to available at times when their kids would likely to have a talk and communicate with them.
The most likely times would be at bedtime, during dinner or driving in a car. It can also be up to the parents to try and initiate the conversation with their kids. And most importantly, communicating should be made as a regular activity between parents and the kids, notwithstanding all the busy schedules or not having the proper time to do so.
Learn To Listen
It is not only important for parents to start conversations with their kids, they should also learn how to listen. Children would be encouraged to talk more if they see their parents making the effort to really listed to what they are saying.
Whenever a child need to talk about something important, it would be good for parents try and drop what they are doing for the meantime to listen to what the kid want to talk about. Parents should also give their kids the time to share their own point of view and make it clear on the table before trying to respond to anything.

When communicating with the kids, there are times when disagreements may arise. That is why parents should also learn how to respond to differences in opinions more softly and in away that would prevent the kids from tuning out.
Reacting with anger or with hostility to what the child has to say can effectively prevent a him or her from ever trying to establish communications with their parents out of fear. It is important that parents should try to avoid getting into arguments with their kids. There are ways that opinions can be expressed without relenting to put downs ans arguments.
