Organizing the things that you have to save and making the necessary preparations needed whenever disaster strikes is the best way to brace for an emergency evacuation.

That more than several families in the US Gulf Coast evacuated in 2005, such a preparation should not be treated as a possibility but a reality as well. Coincidentally, the same thing happened during the passing of Hurricane Ike.

Making an emergency kit of the vital information of your family will truly help you when the need to evacuate arises. Below are tips that can help you creating your own emergency kit.

It is best that you utilize a big portfolio that will make its contents, in this case, your documents, secured and protected.

Place the kit in the part of your house where it will be safe and accessible at the same time. A portable fireproof box is one good example of this.

Make photocopies of your documents-at least two copies of each. These will serve as your back-ups.

Keep in mind that one document can be kept in your car, the other mailed to a relative who can be trusted as there are precious information in them. As much as possible, that relative must live in another region of the country.

Even though some documents lose their validity when photocopied, have them duplicated nonetheless. What matters is that you have proof they exist.
