Adopting a Foreign Child
ad space
Adopting a child from abroad is considered a difficult paperwork. Imagine you want to have a child from two different countries only to find out that you will have to face different and confusing immigration laws. Before continuing with the plan, equip yourself with the following information:
- File the I-600A Form, or the Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition. This was done to determine whether you are suitable for adopting an orphan.
- Find a child that is an orphan (no mother or father).
- File the USCIS Form I-600 (Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative, previously INS Form I-600). Each adult member of your family must be fingerprinted.
- Wait for the approval of the petition.
- Once approvd, the orphan is rughtfully a relative of the US. An immigrant visa can be secured easily.
- The new child, once brought into the United States, is considered a lawful permanent resident of the US.
- It is a good idea to apply for citizenship for the child before he or she is 18 and must file on his or her own.
