Soothing a Crying Baby
Incessant crying is just one of the many common challenges faced by parents when it comes to caring for a baby. A crying baby can either be nothing and everything at the same time. It is nothing when parents know how to stop a crying baby when they need to. It is everything when parents don't. Trying to soothe a crying baby requires patience and a bit of understanding. Here are some of the ways parents may try to soothe a crying baby and prevent a stressful event from getting worse.
Give a thorough baby check.
Most babies cry for a reason. Most of the time, it is something that may be bothering them or making them uncomfortable. Trying to soothe a crying baby may mean trying to find out what may be causing it. This usually calls for a thorough personal baby check-up from head to toe.
Parents should try to check their baby from head to toe to see what may be making the little tyke cry. Is the baby hungry? Is he or she feeling quite hot or too cold? Is it because of a dirty diaper? Parents should try to check out for these things to identify what may be making the baby cry and learn to take care of them. This would usually help soothe the baby and stop the crying.
Get the baby into motion.
One of the more effective ways to soothe the baby is to get moving. Motion seems to relax babies quite effectively. Try rocking a crying baby back and forth gently and it would usually help soothe and relax them, enough sometimes to make them stop crying.
Have a pacifier handy.
Some babies cry because they might feel stressed by something. The only way to stop them from crying is to try to calm them down. One effective way of doing this is by using a pacifier that they can suck on. Sucking seems to have such a calming effect on babies. It gives them something else to do to relax and avoid crying at the same time.
Use some relaxing "white noise".
Babies also seem to react quite well with some "white" or background noise that doesn't bother in any way. A humming vacuum cleaner or a clothes dryer or even sounds coming from the radio or TV seem quite relaxing to some babies. Parents can try it out the next time the baby cries and see if it helps their babies relax.
