How to Host an Academy Awards Party

Watching the Academy Awards for Film, or the Oscars as most of us call it, is an enjoyable activity for the movie buff in you. Watch it with several friend and expect a night of fun and laughter as you bet on the Best Picture or make fun on some of the worst dressed.

If you are planning for an Oscar Watching Party, why not make your own red carpet event? Here are some exciting activities that you can do when hosting an Academy Awards Party.

Throw in the red carpet - Buy, rent, or make a red carpet to welcome your guests at the door. Remind them to come in their most glamorous (or disastrous) dresses and tux. Have them stand near the doorway and have their photographs taken, which you can use as a souvenir later on.

Give away the goodies - What freebie you would give to your guests depend entirely on you. Try some inexpensive shades that all partygoers should wear as they enter your venue, or you could go all out with their own "goody bag" containing gift certificates and some bracelets made from semi-precious stones.

Play some movie music - As you wait for the big event, play soundtracks of your favorite Oscar-winning movies in the background.

Decorate with movies in mind - Place some silver and gold star cutouts around your party venue or you could put posters of the nominated films. Use black, gold, and/or silver tablecloths and napkins as your table setting.

Play some games in between - You could either throw out an Academy Awards trivia game or a "What movie is this line from?" game that your guests can play during the commercials. Award prizes at the end for best and worst scores.

Vote for your bets - Hand out ballots before the ceremonies begin where they vote for the likely winners in every category. After tallying all the scores, hand out awards for the most and least correct picks.

Give that theater feel - Dim the lights during the show, and serve buffet of movie theater food.
