The Future of Transportation
It is an interesting place, this world that we live in. Science and technology in continuously advancing that not only helps us better understand this world that we live in but also help us better equipped ourselves with the challenges of the future.
Science is always doing its work in trying to help us live better. In the field of transportation, science and technology has a big responsibility in trying to develop it to answer the needs as well as the concerns of a world going faster, traveling farther and getting places sooner.
The history of transport is really a colorful one. It all started from the invention of the wheel thousands of years ago that really helped usher in the developments of what was to become known as “transportation”. And with the invention of the wheel came other great discoveries that led us to better modes of transportation.
People were able to create wheeled pushcarts that enable them to carry more goods farther and at the least possible time. This also led to the development of animal-driven carts that greatly improved transportation, which led people to further explore the world, that was then unknown. In the sea, ships were built that enabled many to explore other islands and even reach the farthest recesses of the world. Balloons enabled people to travel by air and see farther from way up above the horizon.
And the developments in transportation did not stop there. As the industrial age arrived, the age of the machines also started. With the invention of the steam engine, people were able to usher in a new age of transportation, that of being able to make use of a “horseless” carriage. Transportation developed in leaps and bounds. Men were able to make ships out of metal and made them bigger and more stronger.
The airplane was invented shortly afterward that ushered in the air age. At around the same time, trains as well as the earliest cars were being developed in order to make transportation more available to more people. This further led to the use of oil and gasoline to power such incredible machines. Further on, transportation in the air also advanced with the manufacture of the first commercial airplane. And the developments did not just end there.
Transportation today has not only gone way more advanced than what was then thought possible, man has also a new focus to consider. We have been looking for a new frontier to explore and this has led to the development of space transports that have allowed us to reach out into space and take exploration outside of the world that we are living in. So what may be next in the future of transportation? The possibilities are endless.
Right now, scientists are trying to develop more energy efficient cars and other transports that try to make use of the most abundant resources for fuel. It may only be time before scientist may be able to develop teleportation to usher in the future of what transportation would evolve into. In the not so distant future, we may hear of machines able to travel at light speeds. And even more interesting, the future of transportation may even bring us to travel back into time. Who knows when such discoveries may come and change our future? Well, only time will tell.
