Dealing with Absenteeism
There are a lot of reasons why employees are prone to absenteeism. One of the things that directly affect it is the morale of employee. It is important that the emotional and mental condition of the employee is always positive.
This should be one of the most important things that the employers should consider whenever they are relating to their employees at work. It is important that employees are cheerful, confident and zealous with regard to their work or else, absenteeism will ensue.
There is a direct relationship between the morale of a team and the degree of absenteeism present. However, the difficulty of measuring the morale or a person has always been true because the costs of low morale are not really hard, quantifiable costs as you would normally think.
The costs that low morale entail are not often that clear and they are, in most cases, undefinable. It is also known that morale also affects the reasons why people call in sick at the last minute. The organizations who are often reporting poor to fair morale are the ones who are much more likely to experience unscheduled absenteeism because of either stress and entitlement mentality.
Employers will have their plates full when they're dealing with this. However, they will be able to remedy this particular problem by simply dealing with the low morale of the team. If the company is able to somehow elevate the morale of the people, then absenteeism will not be that much of a problem.
The important thing is to find the root cause of absenteeism and low morale and start from there. Should there be any other reasons, it would be duly noticed in the process of trying to solve the problem caused by low morale.
Companies might be able to influence people by conducting an open forum-a medium wherein they will be able to voice out their concerns on why their morale is so low. It is important that people will not bash each other in the attempt to force a particular decision due to the problem.
It is important that all sides are heard and that suggestions will be entertained. When that particular rule is established, then the reconciliation and the restoration of a team's morale will be in effect, thus healing whatever damage it may have caused in the past. If you see a need, then you should fill a need. That is the formula for solving the absenteeism problem in companies.
