Office Cubicle Trivia

The belief that great ideas can be reorganized in order to fit the demands of our daily lives is somewhat a given. With a more advanced technology, a more skilled workforce, and a more globalized mindset, we tend to think that this undertaking is going to be an easy one.

Somehow, we fail to realize that we cannot pattern new ideas from past concepts without obliterating the former from which the latter originated. The office cubicle is a perfect case in point.

The office cubicle that we use today was based on a design called the Action Office. The Action Office was created by Robert Propst, a graphic artist and a sculptor who also invented the vertical timber harvester, quality control system for concrete, and electronic tagging system for livestock.

Propst's Action Office had 120 patent designs. He created his layout of the Action Office in such a way that it would:

-give privacy to employees

-help increase the productivity of the employees

-provide the employees with an opportunity to focus better

At present, the office cubicles that we have are too huddled and are not comfortable at all. Whenever you're ticked about your work area and you feel like throwing the blame on someone, don't think of Propst.

Instead, think of the people who thought they can improve the things that were generally brilliant to begin with.
