Introduction to Ecology

Ecology is largely the scientific study of the division and abundance of the different living beings as well as the interactions among organisms and the interrelationship between these organisms and their environment.

The habitat of organisms essentially include both the physical properties which can be expressed as the sum of local abiotic factors which include the geology, climate as well as abundance of sunlight. Several biotic factors are also included.

The term "ecology" is one type of term which is much more casually used in terms of social ecology as well as deep ecology. If it is commonly referred to, it only means that it is a synonym for what we call the environment or environmentalism. Because of this, if you hear the word "ecological" it means that it is environmentally friendly.

This type of science is  branch of the main branch which is biology which is the more general science of studying plants and animals. The organisms that are studied in biology are studied in various levels. For the molecular level, we have biochemistry and molecular biology which is all about proteins as well as nucleic acids. For the levels that deal with populations, ecosystems and communities, we have ecology. It is branch of science that is concerned with so many disciplines. 

The science of ecology is considered a holistic type of science which essentially over-arches other disciplines such as biology.  Some of the different activities that would most probably fall under the umbrella of ecology are urban development, agriculture, fisheries, forestry and medicine. 

For the person who would like to know about ecological knowledge, it will involve so many types of disciplines which will be able to provide a greater and clearer view of what it is to be part of a larger community of organisms and beings.

The quantification of the different species of animals and plants as well as the different dynamics of the different populations involved are the topics which are observed in the study of ecology. These have been able to provide a scientific foundation for expressing the different aims, policies and goals of environmentalism. This is a holistic view of nature and emphasizes both ecohology

Ecological knowledge such as the quantification of biodiversity and population dynamics have provided a scientific basis for expressing the aims of environmentalism and evaluating its goals and policies. This is, in part, related to ecology as it is centered on a holistic view of nature is stressed in both ecology and environmentalism.
