Dressing for Work

How to Avoid Wardrobe Disaster at Work

Your appearance and fashion sense in the workplace could spell the difference between being promoted and being rotten in the same position for the many years to come. Thus, the cliché "Never judge a book by its cover" does not apply at work.

Well, that is just an exaggeration as many hardworking and skilled and talented employees get promoted regardless of their poor fashion taste. But still, a hardworking and skilled and talented employee with a great eye for fashion has more chances of getting promotion and being perceived positively. Check out these fashion no-nos to avoid becoming a laughing stock.

Visible underwear

Bra straps showing through a light blouse or a visible panty line is one fashion disaster you should avoid. Many of your male colleagues will see you as a woman, not a professional if your underwear shows through your dress.

If you want to wear a sheer blouse, you have to wear a nude-colored camisole underneath. Also, look for slips in the colors you wear most often and slips in several lengths. Mute the sheerness of the dress and do not draw attention to the color of your underwear. You can avoid visible panty lines by wearing a hipster bikini, high cut brief, or a thong.

Too much cleavage

There is nothing wrong with showing off your body, especially if you have a to-die-for physique. But it should be in place. Show off your cleavage while at work will encourage many of your male colleagues to see as someone they would love to sleep with. While this may exponentially boost your ego, it certainly will not boost your career.

Wearing the wrong colors

Fashion is largely about colors. The hot pink or lime green raved about by fashion gurus may look fierce on the runway but horrendous on you. Also, do not ever waste your money buying clothes that will make you look washed-out or pale. There are many department stores that have personal shoppers offering style counselling free of charge, so why not ask them for help?

Scuffed shoes and high heels

Sure, you have got stunning red shoes, but are you comfortable wearing them? You do not have to suffer from blisters just to look gorgeous. The highest heels you should wear at work should be two to three inches.

Too much jewellery

You can wear all the jewellery you have as you like, but at work, you should always keep jewellery to a minimum. Keep it simple. You may limit it to a watch, plain cufflinks/dainty necklace and a ring.
