Considered as one of the most important and influential band of the post-punk era, the Irish band U2 has managed to intertwine guitar rock, Celtic spirituality, reconstructing production techniques and experimenting electronica and has matured through the decades.

U2 was formed in Dublin, Ireland in 1976 by then high school friends Paul Hewson (the charismatic vocalist, Bono), guitarist Dave Evans, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen. Before their first album, "Boy" was released in 1980, they were a cover band, playing mainly songs of Beatles and Rolling Stones. That spilled information could be something new for some U2 followers out there. Here is a list of more trivia about the band:

1. Bono is the only person who has been nominated for an Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe, and a Nobel Prize. He was a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003, 2005 and 2006. U2 has won 22 Grammy awards, the most number of awards by a recording artist.

2. The music video for "Where The Streets Have No Name" was filmed live on top of a liquor store in Downtown, Los Angeles, which resulted in a gathering of 10,000 fans to the streets.

3. The song "With or Without You", is the seventh most requested song at funerals in the United Kingdom according to a survey in London.

4. The album "Achtung Baby," which was released in NOvember 1991 was one of their most experimental yet one of the band's most successful albums, and always cited as one of rock's greatest. "Achtung" is German for "attention."

5. Some charity organisations supported by U2 include: Amnesty International, Greenpeace, African Well Fund, Support for Burma's Aung San Suu Kyi, DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa), Chernobyl Children's Project, Jubilee Debt Campaign, The ONE Campaign, Live 8, Make Poverty History.

6. U2's song "Angel of Harlem" was written about Billie Holiday, a Jazz singer who moved to Harlem as a teenager in 1928.

7. All the earnings of the song "One" went to AIDS research. In a poll conducted by Sony, "One" was recently voted as the 5th most popular song of all time.

8. Around 150,000 people were in U2's show on their PopMart Tour in Italy on September 1991, the largest audience at a U2 show ever.

9. Bono always wear shades because he has an allergy to salicyclates, which are found in things such as wine.

10. Adam is the oldest, born March 13, 1960. Bono was born May 10, 1960. Edge was born on August 8, 1961, and Larry is the youngest, born October 31, 1961.
