The 80's decade has ushered in a number of changes in the the world. History marked the 80's as the time that Ronald Reagan was elected president of the United States, John Lennon of the Beatles was killed by a fan in front of his apartment, the Iran-Iraq War just among other events. On the music scene, many developments have brought in that will forever change the face of world of music in general. For one there was the MTV.

The introduction of MTV or Music Television in the 80's paved the way for more and more people to gain access to popular music during those times. It brought in a whole new perspective to music. With MTV, music was not only "heard", it was "seen".

Music has taken a more visual form that seem to entice more and more people as it finally became a phenomenon that shaped the world of music as it was known then. It was the perfect time for MTV to flourish as it came at the same time that the VCR, the Walkman and the Boom Box. Even video games were getting their share of attention as the generation was looking for newer ways to express themselves and shape the decade uniquely as its own. True enough, with the MTV and other technologically inclined advancements of the decade has made the 80's truly in a class all of its own.

MTV has become a new medium that allowed musical artists to express themselves in a whole new way. MTV gave musicians the opportunity to reach out to their music loving fans on a visual perspective. Musicians began to strive to touch their fan's hearts through sight and not just through their sound.

Not only that, MTV helped musicians promote their brand of music to a wider The MTV helped create a global market for music and the people who made them. It made foreign musicians capture a niche of the US market without having to go on expensive concert tours. MTV brought the music to the masses and it helped influence how the children of this generation as they grew up.

MTV also helped introduce many music genres into the limelight that paved the way for a wider appreciation of music in its many forms. It was through MTV that stars were made. It was through MTV that people from faraway places were able to hear the songs of The Police, Michael Jackson and Madonna. MTV became the gauge of an artist's popularity. If your song wasn't being played on MTV, then you don't have it made.

MTV became a popular and wildly effective promotional tool for musicians to reach out to more people and increase public awareness to their songs. Musicians have become more mindful of how MTV shaped the minds of the watching public of the 80's. And through it, musicians were able to make their songs as a propaganda tool to share their beliefs and personal views.

Even today, MTV hasn't lost its wide appeal even after its began about two decades ago. This 80's phenomenon has even evolved further by bringing popular culture into the consciousness of the global audience and not just the music. There seems to be a little chance that MTV might fade away and die a slow death. It is still very much active and alive. As long as people still want music into their homes, there will always be MTV.
