Biography
Whitesnake is an English heavy metal band that hails from North Yorkshire, England. It was founded by former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale. The band was officially founded in 1978 by Coverdale with a core lineup that acted as his backing band. They were initially known as the White Snake Band. The first band was for touring to promote Coverdale's solo albums in between leaving Deep Purple and founding Whitesnake.
The early years of the band have them playing mostly blues rock songs. Their first full-length debut album, Trouble, had a blues rock compilation and was able to make it to number 50 on the UK charts. Succeeding albums also enjoyed chart success in the UK. But success in the US proved to be elusive.
Their luck changed in 1987 when the band released Whitesnake in the US. It also marked the change in the their musical style from blues to melodic hard rock. The change prove to be timely as the band enjoyed their first US mainstream success that led to the album selling more than eight million copies.
After periods of hiatus and personnel changes in between, Whitesnake continues to be active and is in line to perform on several shows in the UK along with other known bands.
