How to Change your IP Address (Windows)
Certainly, there are a number of reasons why someone would want to change his or her IP address. Yet no matter how many excuses anyone might come up with, it balls down to one thing: how to change the IP address?
Of course, an individual must have be knowledgeable, or even just have a brief idea, on the certain facts regarding IP addresses. In that manner, they will know what should be done. Or if the user consulted an IT specialist, he or she would at least know what to tell him.
There are two kinds of IP addresses:
- a static IP address and
- a dynamic IP address.
Static IP addresses are those that can never be altered unless done so manually. Meanwhile, dynamic IP addresses are those that can be changed automatically by the network itself on instances whenever you leave and reconnect.
Basically, it is the Internet Service Provider or ISP that provides the addressing. But altering the internet IP address works on different degrees depending on what device you are using. Just like on modem users, the device itself will be the one that assigns the IP address.
Disconnecting and reconnecting changes the address. However, on broadband, as it is a static IP address, this will definitely mean changing it manually. Thus, it is suggested that you contact your broadband provider to make such an alteration.
Procedures on acquiring a new IP address on Microsoft Windows:
- Click the Start menu button.
- Then click Run...
- In here, type these letters - cmd.
- Once the command prompt windows appears, type the following letters - ipconfig. From there you get to view the current IP address of your computer.
- If you choose to change the present IP address, type this - ipconfig/release. Then to get a new IP address, you have to type this keyword - ipconfig/renew. From there, you get to acquire a new of IP address.
Or you can do this other procedure:
- While in the MS Windows desktop, right click My Network Places or My Network Neighborhood.
- Afterwards, click Properties
- Then do right-click on Local Area Connection
- Choose Properties
- Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click on Properties.
- Then click on "Use the Following IP address". Make sure the address has not been selected.
- Then choose on the IP addresses you want to use. Definitely, you will have to indicate the subnet mask and the gateway as you are attempting to enter the necessary data.
