Microsoft has recently developed its new operating system, Windows 7 and has released its beta version for public testing. There have been certain changes and improvements made based on its predecessor, the Windows Vista. Many of them have dealt with the security features that will make Windows 7 a more secure and stable OS. Here are some of those security changes found.

User Account Control Changes

The User Account Control or UAC first came out in the Vista and was designed to provide better protection against malware. But it tends to be quite troublesome in doing so by having to require certain permissions to gain access to administrative privileges on the PC. This garnered a lot of complaints from many Vista users.

In the Windows 7 version, the UAC can be configured according to the level of protection that a user requires. The frequency of notifications received would depend on how the UAC is configured.

Removable Drive Encryption

The Vista has an encryption feature that allows users to encrypt drives on laptops and PC. But then, it lacked the feature to encrypt removable storage and thumb drives. In the new Windows 7. A better BitLocker was developed to include encryption of removable drives for added data security.

Improved Biometric Security

Windows 7 now has its own biometric system for added security built in. With the Vista, this feature was already made available by providing support for the use of fingerprint sensors. But the Vista had to make use of third party programs in order to use it. Windows 7 now has its own Biometric Devices applet available in the Control Panels that lets users configure fingerprint readers.
