Here are some tips that might help extend your computer usage instead off trying to buy one each year.
Good Ventilation
One way of trying to keep your PC in tiptop shape is by providing it with proper ventilation. PC usage generates considerable heat and may require proper ventilation to avoid overheating. Too much heat can cause some of its components to break down and sometimes can get damaged beyond repair. Make sure that you provide your computer with proper ventilation by providing it with enough space to "breathe" or install a special ventilation system that will help cool off your PC when you are using it.
Avoid Dust
Dust can also contribute to shortening the life of your PC. It is advisable to keep your computer off the floor as much as possible where most dust usually accumulate. And since dust will eventually collect inside your PC whether you like it or not, using compressed air to blow of the accumulated dust inside the CPU once in awhile may help extend its life.

Many people have grown accustomed to keeping their computers always plugged in and ready for use. This offers them the convenience of having their PC ready for use whenever they want to. But doing so may not only cause higher electricity bills, it might also shorten the life of your PC. Make sure that you turn off your computer if not in use to give it some much needed rest.
