Getting Your Child To Sleep
If your child is accustomed to sleep irregularly, you should consider taking a second look at the things that you can do in order to make your child sleep early. Children sleep quite late mostly during the summer because they need not to. It's understood that with the longer daylight hours, your children will eventually sleep later at night. However, you should still have your child sleep early because it would be a great idea if you did not have to go through the usual lectures and sermons, come school days. If your child goes to bed by himself every night at a reasonable hour, then it would be easier for you as well as for your child. So be sure you'll be able to ease the transition of your child from vacation mode to school mode by following these tips the next time you talk to him or her:
Be very clear with the rules, early on.
A good thing you could do is to start a month early. In these first thirty days before school, you should immediately start the scheduling of your child's bedtime schedule. You should be able to set his or her bedtime back 15 minutes for the first few days. Then slowly work your way back until you reach a reasonable sleeping time for your child. This will essentially give you enough time for him or her to get accustomed to the different shifts in schedule.
Prepare morning activities for your child
For the activities that will encompass the final days of your child's summer, you should be able to prepare enough morning and afternoon activities for him or her. You should be able to give more emphasis for activities that are done in the morning so by the time that your child is already in school then he or she won't feel the difference of doing a lot in the morning as opposed to having the bulk of the activity done at night. Another reason for doing this is as the day wears on, you'll effectively tire him or her out and you'll end up with a kid who's raring to go to bed by the time everything's finished.
Remember to keep things light but continuous and you should also approach everything with a light-hearted manner. Asking a child who doesn't want to go to bed to immediately sleep will be quite a feat for you. Try to make the changes subtle enough so the transition will be very smooth for your child and especially for you.
