Know the organization - The key to any writing assignment is knowing your product. The better you know the product, the more concise you can be.

Build around the mission – Make sure to include your mission statement on any marketing tools you generate.

Involve your board of directors - Once you have an idea of what you might need - and what you don't want to create or print yourself - tell to your board of directors your wishes and enlist their help.

Publishing program – You can find two inexpensive programs to help you to create business cards, letterhead, Web page designs and more. You can even generate all of your organization's business forms from these and save money on printing costs. These programs are Adobe Pagemaker and Microsoft Publisher.

Establish partnerships  - Find the corporations in your community that have PR departments that can create materials for you - most major corporations have print shops that are required to do some sort of community service. Build relations with these corporations that will allow you to get your printing for free.

Keep it simple – Keep in mind you have to accomplish your goals on a tight budget. With self-created materials, partnerships with community organizations and board support, your marketing materials will look like professional but for a small amount of dollars.
