Working With a Bad Boss
Don't take things personally
Many employees may have experienced being shouted upon by a terror boss and then be greatly affected by it. Sometimes, things can get so crazy that some employees begin to take it personally. The best way to deal with a not-so-nice boss is to take everything with a grain of salt. Leave things at the office and never let it affect you when you go out at the end of the day. It sure can be hard and difficult sometimes. But one can always try.
Continue to act professionally
Bad bosses come in different forms. Some bad bosses shout a lot. Some are so ineffective at work and yet look at themselves too highly. Some exert their authority a bit too much. Whatever kind of bad boss you find yourself working with, it always pays to act professionally in whatever situation.
Never try to stoop down to a level where you might find yourself forgetting office etiquette through a sudden burst of emotion. Act accordingly with grace and professionalism even when under fire from the actions of a bad boss.
Don't expect to change your boss
Some employees try to work hard to get their boss to realize just how bad they are. Most of the times, they might just be fighting a losing battle. A bad boss with a history of doing so would not change overnight. Nor would an action by any employee compel one's boss to suddenly turn over a new leaf.
If you must, you can air your side to the boss in question and leave it at that. There is no need to pour out your whole tenure at the office trying to change someone who has grown accustomed to being a bad boss in the first place.
If the stress is too much, do contemplate quitting
Quitting might be a sign of surrender for some employees. It might even be perceived as a failure at work. But in some cases, contemplating resignation can be the only means necessary to keep your wits together. If a bad boss is too much to take day in and day out, it would be better to quit than to prolong the suffering and the stress that comes with it. If you do your best in what you do, there can be many other companies willing to get your services and with better bosses to work with.
