The Amazing Race: Reality Shows
The Amazing Race is a popular US reality television game show that involves contestants traveling in different countries all over the world. It is a game where a team of composed of two individuals (with the exception of the Family Edition Season) with a pre-existing personal relationship with each other.
The objective of the race is to travel around the world, go through a series of challenges along the way and arrive first as a designated destination. The team that arrives last is usually eliminated.
Basic Premise
The Amazing Race is divided into a series of legs, each one with their own set of destinations and challenges as well as a designated "pit stop" at the end. Contestants start on the same leg of the race and travel to or within several countries to look for clues along the way.
The clues are usually provided after doing certain tasks or solving puzzles. The challenges are usually related in some way to the country, culture or locations where the contestants are made to do them. In each leg, the ultimate goal is always to be the first team to get to the "pit stop" in order to win prizes as well as to avoid getting eliminated from the subsequent legs. The last team to arrive at a designated "pit stop" is usually eliminated from the race.
Route Information
Each leg is composed of different destinations that contestants have to go through. Each destination are given route markers which are flags that mark the different places that each team have to go to. These route markers usually are attached to boxes containing clues.
Clues are being provided for the contestants that will lead them to the next route marker or destination and subsequent clues. Most clues are provided as puzzles that the teams have to figure out for themselves in order to get there. Clues sometimes are accompanied with options such as Yield, Detour, Fast Forward or Roadblock that can be used to a team's advantage either by getting a shorter route to the next location or pit stop or by blocking or delaying another team for some advantage gain.
Production
The Amazing Race was created by Bertram von Munster and Elise Doganeiri. The show was produced by Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer with the first season being aired in the United States. The Amazing Race has since been made with several other international versions from other countries that follow the same race format.
