Star Wars Movie Series
Star Wars is a successful movie franchise consisting of six films made up of two trilogies. The film franchise was the idea of George Lucas in the 1970's. The first trilogy consisted of a film starred by Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, Carrie Fisher, and David Prowse. The second trilogy, which was actually the prequel to the first one, starred Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Samuel L. Jackson, and Hayden Christensen.
Plot Summary
The events of the Star Wars series takes place in a fictional galaxy where creatures, robots and humans exist together. The story of the prequel is about Anakin Skywalker, who was believed to be the "Chosen One", according to Jedi prophesy. Although the other members of the Jedi Council headed by Yoda sees Anakin's future as cloudy, he was still allowed to be trained as a Jedi by Obi Wan Kenobi.
The first sequel of the film series is about Anakin's growth and the events that happened as he grew into an adult and becomes a Jedi. The last part of the series tells the story of how Anakin slowly falls into the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, who sided with the Evil Empire and tries to exterminate the Jedi Order.
The original sequel that was first shown in the late 70's, follows the story of Darth Vader and the Empire but this time highlighting the life of Luke Skywalker. With the Evil Empire ruling most of the galaxy and with the ultimate weapon, the Death Star nearing completion, its blueprint found its way into the hands of the rebels. It was hidden inside the robot R2-D2. In its escape from the hands of the enemies, it found its way into the hands of Luke who manages to discover about the plans.
Luke then went on to look for the Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi to help the rebels. They then went on a series of adventures that led them to destroy the Death Star. Darth Vader went chasing the rebels and plans to build a second Death Star. The remaining part of the series has Luke discovering that Darth Vader was his father and would need to confront him in order to bring order into the galaxy, destroy the second Death Star and prevent the Evil Empire from ruling.
Box Office Performance
The Star Wars series is considered as one of the most successful movie franchises in history. The franchise was able to gross over four billion dollars worldwide. Its success also led the film to go into comics, video games, an animated series as well as other films that were later based upon it.
