Spiders can instantly strike fear in the eyes of many people. People seem to dread seeing spiders up close. It may be their appearance, their creepy, crawly demeanor or the stories said about them that may have further added to people's fear of spiders. And it seems to be a fairly common fear for quite a number of people. And because of this fear, there are quite a number of horror movies available that feature these scary creepy crawlies as the main attraction.

Hollywood has come up with quite a long list of spider horror movies, with some of them even becoming the favorites of many horror movie buffs. There were quite a number that were done even as early as the 50's albeit the effects may not have been that convincing enough for some people but still quite interesting enough to watch. Through the years, spider horror movies from then on came to improve and were more able to convincingly scare movie watchers out of their seats. Even today, there are quite a number of movie buffs who still look out for a good spider horror movie once in a while. Here is a list of some spider horror movies that you might want to watch.

Tarantula- this is a 1955 movie that spawned from the success of the radiation-created giant ants in the movie "Them". The movie is about a mutant tarantula that has been created by a scientist in an experiment. Although it may look a tad mild for some die-hard horror movie fans, "Tarantula" still is able to provide that rush of excitement through an effectively rapid pacing that can still keep anyone grab on to their seats. Try also to look for the bit part played by Clint Eastwood as an Air Force pilot tasked to bomb the gigantic mutant menace.

Earth vs. The Spider- here is another early spider horror movie that horror movie buffs would surely not want to miss. This film was made in 1958 and even inspired a remake sometime in 2001. This story is based on a giant spider that was discovered by a couple of teenagers in a cave. After escaping from the cave, the teenagers brought in some law enforcement officers who apparently killed the gigantic monster. Its body is then displayed in the local high school gym where the spider awakens and does rampage to the whole town before it is eventually destroyed back in its lair. And because this movie was made during the late 50's, the lame special effects may be not much to the liking of others. An early spider horror movie but something to still look out for just the same.

Arachnopobia- If you are looking for a good modern spider horror movie, then you might want to take a look at this 1990 movie about a large spider that came from the jungles of South America. It is then by accident, transported to America in a dead body where it then mates with a local spider. The spiders find their way into a small California town where residents began to disappear one by one as the result of spider bites from this hidden menace. A couple of doctors with the help of an insect exterminator are put to the task of trying to eliminate these eight legged freaks before they try to take over the entire town.
