Most Famous Vampires

With the release of Twilight, and the sight of millions of prepubescent and teenage girls swooning over Edward Cullen, bloodsuckers are once again the talk of the town. From Count Orlok to Lestat to Edward, it seems that we just can't get enough of these night (and day) creatures. Sink your teeth into our 5 awesome un-deads to know more about them.

Count Dracula

Dracula is hands down the most famous vampire on film. Dracula's power to seduce women is hinted in the Bela Lugosi-starrer, Dracula (1931). Since the release of the film based on Bram Stoker's novel, Lugosi has become synonymous with Dracula. The actor's Hungarian accent made the vampire the picture we think of today: "I vant to suck your blood."

You can't make a list of awesome vampires on screen without including Lugosi's Dracula. Christopher Lee also did a good in portraying Dracula in several films. John Malkovich's odd 'do and his transformation into a bat-human hybrid seal the character's place in this list.

Count Orlok

Count Orlok from F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922) is a monster popular for his talon-like fingernails, fanged teeth, bald pate, and creepy shadow. In this unauthorized adaption of Stoker's novel, the first on screen representation of Dracula was so uncanny that some critics wondered whether the the actor who portrayed Count Orlok (Max Shreck) himself could be a vampire. Orlok is distinguished from other Draculas in that he is more ancient and nightmarish.

Lestat de Lioncourt

Lestat de Lioncourt is the most famous star of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series. Portrayed in Interview with the Vampire (1994) by Tom Cruise, and later in Queen of the Damned (2002) by Stuart Townsend, this bloodsucker is popular for his enthusiasm, boldness, and defiance. While he's sometimes viewed as a villain, Lestat can be altruistic and is somewhat philosophical.

Santanico Pandemonium

Salma Hayek's Santanico Pandemonium in Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) is definitely the hottest vampire babe on screen ever. Who can forget her oozing sex appeal while doing a snake dance in bikini? And then she turns into a lizard creature. Remarkable.

Selene

While Santanico Pandemonium looks superb in a bikini-snake combo, Selene is steaming hot while kicking butts in tight leather. Selene is the main protagonist in Underworld (2003) and Underworld: Evolution (2006). She is a "Death Dealer", hunting the werewolf species (lycan).

Honorable mentions:

The following bloodsuckers follow closely in our list: the cool David (Keifer Sutherland) from The Lost Boys (1987), the poster boy Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) from Twilight (2008), the bad boy Blade (Wesley Snipes) from the Blade trilogy, the immortal Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) from The Hunger (1983), and the damned Queen Akasha (Aaliyah) from Queen of the Damned (2002).
