Neil GaimanNeil Gaiman was born on November 10, 1960. Although his first real published work was a biography of the band Duran Duran, many consider his works after that, very intellectual and engaging.

He is a gifted writer who has been able to create famous comic book titles such as Sandman, The Books of Magic and other projects. Neil Gaiman has also been able to write novels such as American Gods, Anansi Boys and Mirrormask. The latter was eventually produced to become a film for Hollywood.

Neil Gaiman was thrust into the public limelight when he worked on the DC Vertigo comics title "Sandman". This particular title was said to be one of the more intellectual comic book titles out there. It was then awarded as the first comic book with a literary award from the World Fantasy Awards.

He is a poet, songwriter, screenplay writer, novelist and comic book writer all rolled into one unassuming person. His works, especially the Sandman, have been considered to be the greatest literary works in comic book history. He continues to become quite successful in comic books and his work is not only highly regarded by his critics but highly anticipated as well by his legions of fans.

Neil's first work in the comic book industry was with Miracleman, for the UK-based publisher "Eclipse". After that, he joined DC Comics and started with his work with the "Sandman". It was able to run for about 9 years with a total of 75 issues. It was one of the first comic book series that included an actual ending in mind to the series. "Sandman" can still be bought in graphic novel form today.

It has been long-touted as one of the finest comic book series of this day and age. Pulitzer Prize winner Norman Mailer had this to say about the Sandman series of Gaiman: "Along with all else, Sandman is a comic strip for intellectuals, and I say it's about time."

Neil has continued to work on comic books and has crossed the chasm to include movies and television in his resumé. He was able to write a series for the BBC which was entitled "Neverwhere" and he also wrote "Mirrormask" which was eventually directed by a good friend and long-time collaborator, Dave McKean. There are other notable works under his belt which includes "Stardust" which is now a major motion picture and "Coraline".
