1. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
Here we start where Frank Miller's career started to skyrocket. He also wrote alongside Alan Moore in this particular series.
He showed that the world was indeed ready to take on a Batman which was much darker and edgier as it tells the story of Batman coming out of retirement to reclaim Gotham City.
2. Sin City: The Hard Goodbye
Frank Miller experienced difficult times during the course of his work with DC Comics so he went over to Dark Horse and began a set of short comics that came out in Dark Horse Presents.
It was then turned into a collection and became the trade paperback Sin City: The Hard Goodbye. This is the first line of Sin City comics and was Miller's first expedition into the crime genre.
3. Daredevil Visionaries
This is one of the instances that Frank Miller both writes and illustrates for a comic series. This spanned the issues of Daredevil #168-182. This series featured a lot of firsts for the hero.
It's when he introduced Elektra for the first time and was subsequently followed by the death of long-time archrival, Bullseye.
4. Sin City: That Yellow Bastard
This is the first time that Miller decided to use color in his typical black and white series. The character of the Yellow Bastard is in complete contrast to the other characters and scenes.
This title is known for its very graphic nature. This award-winning tale is definitely one of Miller's best works to date.
5. Batman: Year One
This originally ran as Batman #404-407 which is where Frank Miller introduced how Bruce Wayne became the caped crusader. This particular comic was subsequently retconned in order to change the original series history in order to fit the modern storyline of Batman.
It has been adopted as one of the most faithful retellings of the old Batman story. Batman: Year One started off with the story that essentially ends in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.
