IDW Publishing Profile
IDW Publishing started in 1999 as the parent company Idea & Design Works, LLC. It was started by co-presidents Ted Adams and Robbie Robbins. The other pioneers who started the company are Kris Oprisko and Alex Garner.
Their editor-in-chief is Chris Ryall who is also the publishing company's publisher. The current company, IDW was formed in 2001.
In 2002, 30 Days of Night was an instant hit and confirmed to the comic book world that it was ready for the rebirth of horror comics.
This comic book title was very integral for the comics landscape as it was able to revitalize the genre and helped license more titles such as the Transformers and Angel.
Before the smash comic book title "30 Days of Night", the existence of IDW Publishing was virtually unheard of aside from some few fans here and there.
However, because of the reinvention of the horror genre, they comic book publisher was able to capture the Transformers market which is doing particularly well as there have been so many followers of this robot-centered series. Other comics that IDW has been able to release are those of CSI and Angel.
The biggest hit of the publishing company is that of the non-licensed title "30 Days of Night" which featured Eben & Stella Olemaun as well as a lot of vampires.
The other comic book titles that IDW Publishing was able to release included Popbot, Cal MacDonald and Wormwood Gentleman Corpse.
The company is able to publish several types of licensed comics which feature Joss Whedon's Angel a& Spike, Jack Bauer (from the TV hit series "24"), Scarface and Captains Kirk and Picard from Star Trek.
Currently, the company is not open for public purchase so you will not be able to own any piece of the company as its percentage of market share is only 1.49%.
The publishing company is not hiring at the moment so you will probably have better luck if you simply stay tuned to the company's web site as they do most of their recruitment and postings there. For other details, visit their website at www.idwpublishing.com
Because of the current success of the company in adapting TV series into comics, they have been able to release their most successful comic book title into the big screen as 30 Days of Night opened in October 2007 by Sony Pictures. They have other licenses such as Transformers so things are looking good for IDW Publishing. In the future they will most probably be able to capture a good niche of the market.
