Jim LeeJim Lee is considered to be one of the premiere comic book artists of all time. He is a Korean American writer, creator, publisher and comic book artist. His artwork is legendary because of the distinct, crisply hatched line art style that he uses whenever he draws. He has also idealized anatomical forms which make his art very intricate as well as pleasing to look at. Because of this new stylistic form of art that he introduced when he first came into the spotlight, the way that comic books were drawn were greatly influenced.

He introduced a popular trend back then which was contrary to the brushed to penned inking in the latter 20th and early 21st century. He has been able to consistently improve his style and manner of artwork over the course of time. His neatness and detail to each and every character and illustration is quite stunning because he presents his drawings as ideal illustrations.

He was born in Seoul, South Korea although he grew up in St. Louis Missouri. During his times in his school in St. Louis County Day School, Lee would have several classmates tell him that he would found his own comic book company after they graduate.

However, at first, Jim Lee wanted to respect his father’s legacy in the field of medicine so he entered Princeton University and he majored in psychology with plans to become a medical doctor. It was during an elective course in Fine Arts that his passion for drawing was reignited. He graduated in 1986 and he put medical school on hold in order to attempt a career in comic book illustration.

He was able to ink a cover of Samurai Santa #1 for a meager independent publisher back then. After that, he came to Marvel and found himself to be the penciller of Marvel Comics titles such as Alpha Flight and Punisher War Journal. In 1986, he was able to take over a project from Marc Silvestri who was then doing issues of Uncanny X-Men.

Lee did some other guest stints from issue #256 through # 256 as part of the Acts of Vengeance. When Marc Silvestri abandoned the series, Jim Lee took over and this was the time that he was able to practice his skills as a legendary artist in the comic book industry.

One of his most famous contributions to the comic book industry, particularly to the X-Men franchise is the fabled series which was simply called X-Men. He was able to write the storyline along with Chris Claremont. Together they introduced Gambit and also introduced new uniforms for characters such as Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Psylocke and Storm. These enduring legacies still continue up until now. They also created the once-popular character of Omega Red with John Byrne.

All in all, his stint in Marvel comics can only be described as a fraction of Lee’s contribution to the comic book industry. He is definitely a legend and a great artist in the comic book industry and he will continue to be in the future years to come.
